Posted April 10, 2020 10:51:29The mother of a Queensland woman who had to undergo a series of surgeries for facial reconstruction is hoping to be reunited with her daughter before she has to go back to jail.
The 27-year-old has been held at the New Brighton Federal Correctional Institution in Brisbane for almost two years after she was arrested and charged with assaulting a man outside a nightclub in September 2016.
It is understood she has spent time in jail since then.
In the meantime, Ms Wilson has been in custody at New Brighton for about a year, and had her family notified after the court heard she had had a series in hospital.
But she says she was not able to make any contact with her new daughter and has not seen her since.
Ms Wilson says she has lost touch with her now 17-year, and was shocked when she found out the family is not permitted to visit.
“I didn’t even know she was here, I didn’t know what her birthday was,” she said.
“She is not my daughter.”
Ms Wilson has spent the last two years battling the court system to have her daughter released.
“It’s a big shock.
I didn, I wasn’t even aware she was in there.
I just don’t know where to turn to.
I don’t understand how I am going to get her home,” she added.
The family is now seeking a judicial review in Federal Court, arguing she was never given the opportunity to make contact with their daughter before being arrested.
