An elderly couple and their two children were forced to stay at a Henderson County motel in fear when they heard gunfire.
The elderly couple is not the only family to be in danger.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted to the situation in the Clark County Detention Center.
“We’re not sure how many other families are in danger and we don’t know what kind of a response is going to be,” said Henderson County Sheriff Chuck Smith.
The sheriff said he is confident the public will help protect them, but he is asking them to report any suspicious activity to the sheriff’s office.
“If we’re seeing people who are out here on their own, they need to call 911 and let us know what they’re seeing and what they need,” Smith said.
The couple has a 9-year-old daughter who is at a day care center and is being cared for by the Sheriff’s office and other family members.
They are concerned about their safety.
“I just want her to be safe.
I want to be able to sleep at night,” the father, Robert Smith, said.
“She needs me and I need her.
I’ve got to be there for her.”
The Clark Correctional Center in Henderson County has more than 200 inmates and many are in restraints.
Clark County is a high crime area in Clark County, which has a population of about 10,000.
Sheriff Smith said it is not uncommon for inmates to have a gun in their car.
The Sheriff’s department is not releasing the name of the couple or any other individuals who were arrested or charged with crimes.
Smith said that he hopes the public can report any unusual activity.
He said he has been contacted by the Clark county sheriff’s department, but no charges have been filed.
“As of right now, we’re still in a very active situation,” Smith told reporters.
