BOONE COUNTY, Ky.
— A Boone County judge has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for inappropriate conduct with an underage girl, a sentencing hearing was scheduled Thursday.
The Boone County Juvenile Court on Tuesday heard from the judge’s defense attorney, John Lefkowitz, who said he would be appealing the sentence.
Lefkovitz said that he believes the court should sentence Macoupinte County Juvenil Court Judge William H. Macoupins conduct to six months in prison because he abused his power, according to the Boone County News-Leader.
He said that Macoupinos behavior in this case was “irresponsible and inappropriate.”
“The defendant abused his position and authority as a judge to have sex with a minor and to sexually molest a minor,” Lefkoowitz said, according the News-Online.
“There are people who do that, there are people in the public who do it, and I believe the judge did the right thing.”
Macoupin, 50, is the son of the judge and the father of two children.
He pleaded guilty in April to misdemeanor sex abuse charges stemming from an incident in which he had sexual contact with a 14-year-old boy.
Macoupins behavior was also the subject of a federal lawsuit in 2015 filed by two women who alleged that Macoutins conduct was inappropriate, inappropriate and offensive to women.
