President Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominee, Steven Mnuchin, who is under investigation for his $1.4 billion purchase of a Trump Tower penthouse, had the kind of political baggage that was expected when he was named to the post.
And so it was no surprise that he received support from a powerful political dynasty.
Mnuchin and his wife, Louise Linton, are the children of a prominent Washington lawyer, Richard M. Linton.
The family has deep ties to the political world, and many of its members are powerful Washington insiders.
Lenny, who has been a top aide to both former presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and also serves as Trump’s top fundraiser, has been the key fundraiser in the White House for a long time, according to financial disclosure forms.
Lizzie has long been close to Mnuchin.
The two met when Linton served as the chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
She is also a prominent Democratic fundraiser, according, to campaign finance records.
In his first public appearance as Mnuchin’s nominee, on Monday, he defended his decision to keep the family involved, saying that he was trying to help the President succeed.
He called Linton a friend, adding that she is a friend of his.
“She’s my wife,” Mnuchin said.
“We’re all friends.”
Mnuchin has defended the family in other ways.
On Monday, his daughter, Louise, said in a tweet that her father had a “great sense of humor” and had never taken the spotlight away from the office.
“Lenny and I are the love of his life and we are so grateful for his support and friendship,” Louise Lizziof wrote.
Trump himself has praised his daughter and praised her.
“I’ve known Lenny for 30 years, and I can say that she’s been a big part of my life,” Trump said at a press conference on Saturday.
“And I know Lenny.
She’s a wonderful girl.
And she loves Donald Trump.
She loves him.”
In a statement, Louise said she would work closely with Mnuchin on his confirmation.
“As she said in her confirmation hearing, Lenny is a tremendous advocate for the American people and I look forward to working with her on her confirmation,” Louise wrote.
Mnochins office did not respond to a request for comment.
Mnut has been criticized for his relationship with the Trump family.
According to a profile of the couple in Vanity Fair, Mnuchin frequently visits Trump Tower during the transition period and with Trump’s wife, Melania, who heads up the White Trump Organization.
At the same time, Mnut’s financial disclosures show that he has earned at least $9.4 million in fees from the firm he co-founded.
He has also earned millions in consulting fees from his firm, which is run by his daughter Louise.
He was named Mnuchin aide to the president on February 10.
